I want to tell you the best news you will ever hear.

The word gospel means good news. It is the good news that God saves sinners through Jesus Christ. He offers forgiveness for your guilt, peace with himself, and eternal life, not because you have earned it, but because Christ has done everything necessary to save you.

God Made You for Himself

Your life is not an accident. God made you in his image. He gave you life, breath, and every good thing you have ever received. He created you to know him, love him, worship him, and live under his good rule.

God is holy. There is no evil, dishonesty, selfishness, or injustice in him. He is perfectly good, perfectly loving, and perfectly just.

The Bible says:

“For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.” — Romans 11:36

You were made by God and for God. Your heart will never find its true rest apart from him.

You Have Sinned Against God

Yet, like every other human being, you have turned away from God.

You may not think of yourself as a terrible person. You may have done many kind and generous things. But the question is not whether you are better than someone else. The question is whether you have loved God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and whether you have loved your neighbor as yourself.

You have lied. You have acted selfishly. You have entertained sinful thoughts, spoken careless words, ignored God, and lived as though your life belonged entirely to you.

The Bible calls this sin.

“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” — Romans 3:23

Sin is more than making mistakes. It is turning from God and living as though you belong to yourself. Sin makes you guilty before God, corrupts your heart, and leads to judgment and death.

You cannot erase that guilt by becoming more religious, doing enough good deeds, or trying harder. Good works cannot undo the evil already committed. Religion cannot cleanse the heart. You cannot climb your way back to God.

You need to be rescued.

Jesus Christ Came to Save Sinners

God has not left you without hope.

Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, came into the world and became truly human. He lived the life you have failed to live. He loved God perfectly. He obeyed without sin. He was righteous, innocent, and good.

Yet Jesus willingly went to the cross.

There he bore the guilt and judgment sinners deserve. He died in the place of sinners, taking upon himself the punishment of all who trust in him.

“Christ died for our sins.” — 1 Corinthians 15:3

Jesus was buried, but death could not hold him. On the third day, God raised him bodily from the dead. Jesus conquered sin, death, and the grave. He is alive today, and he reigns as Lord.

Christianity is not mainly advice about how you can improve yourself or climb your way up to God. It is the announcement that God came down to rescue you.

Salvation Is God’s Gift

You cannot purchase forgiveness. You cannot earn eternal life. Salvation is a gift of grace.

“The gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” — Romans 6:23

Jesus Christ offers to forgive you, reconcile you to God, give you a new heart, and bring you into God’s family.

This does not mean God simply pretends your sin does not matter. Your sin mattered enough for Christ to die. At the cross, God’s justice was satisfied and his mercy was displayed.

Because of Jesus, your guilt can be pardoned. Your shame can be covered. Your rebellion can be forgiven. You can be welcomed home to God.

Turn to Jesus Christ

God now calls you to respond with repentance and faith.

To repent means to turn from your sin to God. It means admitting that you have been wrong, laying down your rebellion, and submitting yourself to Jesus Christ as Lord.

To have faith means to trust in Jesus Christ alone. It means relying on who he is, what he accomplished on the cross, and his resurrection rather than relying on your morality, religion, sincerity, or good intentions.

“Repent and believe in the gospel.” — Mark 1:15

You do not need to clean yourself up before coming to Christ. You come because you cannot clean yourself. You come honestly, with empty hands, admitting that you need mercy.

Jesus said:

“Whoever comes to me I will never cast out.” — John 6:37

Following Jesus is more than agreeing with certain facts. It is entrusting yourself to him. It is receiving him as Savior and bowing before him as Lord.

You are not saved by your obedience, but genuine faith does not remain alone. Christ gives his people a new life; a life of learning to trust him, love him, obey him, and follow him.

Will You Come to Christ?

Do you recognize that you have sinned against God?

Do you understand that you cannot save yourself?

Do you believe that Jesus Christ died for sinners and rose from the dead?

Are you ready to turn from your sin and trust him?

Do not wait until you feel worthy. You will never make yourself worthy. Christ receives the guilty, the broken, and the helpless. That is why he came.

You may call upon God in words like these:

“God, I know that I have sinned against you and cannot save myself. I believe that Jesus Christ died for sinners and rose from the dead. Please forgive me. I turn from my sin and trust in Jesus Christ alone to save me. Rule my life, give me a new heart, and teach me to follow you. Amen.”

The prayer itself does not save you. Jesus saves. These words are simply one way of expressing genuine repentance and faith.

Do not place your trust in the prayer you prayed. Place your trust in the crucified and risen Savior.

“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.” — Acts 16:31
